Everybody /
Jayant Kashyap

tells you
things you don’t know

/ tells you
things you know /

tells you things you
know you never knew

/ but have you
ever been tapped

very publicly
on a shoulder / say

in a marketplace /
or on a train station

/ and been told
something

you didn’t know you
once knew / and have

been forgetting
gradually /

without knowing
you have been / like

hey / remember
we were there /

we used to— / we /
we had a—? / no?
Jayant Kashyap’s third pamphlet, Notes on Burials, won the 2024 New Poets Prize, judged by Holly Hopkins and organised by the Poetry Business. His poems have appeared in POETRY, Denver Quarterly, Magma, Arc, Acumen, and Poetry Wales.
