the lord gave me x hours
of wonder. I came to
like a trout in sweet water
dressed white by the weather.
the great outdoors was a triptych
of quicklime the ice god
swept off her work bench
sculpting a rampant swan.
marble feather: carver's woe.
as a kid by a bay window
I taught myself to whistle
like a strike-anywhere match
drug across drywall
picks up fire. I thought
the world would line up
to hear this new kind of music
but all that changed was the wall
me and the wall
of wonder. I came to
like a trout in sweet water
dressed white by the weather.
the great outdoors was a triptych
of quicklime the ice god
swept off her work bench
sculpting a rampant swan.
marble feather: carver's woe.
as a kid by a bay window
I taught myself to whistle
like a strike-anywhere match
drug across drywall
picks up fire. I thought
the world would line up
to hear this new kind of music
but all that changed was the wall
me and the wall
