They Had Little in Common
Holly Mitchell

except their annoyance
with the way I washed my hands
& they couldn’t stand ellipticals
or the motherish fat on their stomachs.
They both read Time so haltingly
weeks piled up on every bed.
They wanted to cook from scratch
& to tongue something cold
from a breast. Now & again
I tell you I don’t have a type.
When I went away, they wanted
to exchange letters
but I only mailed one back.
Holly Mitchell is the author of Mare's Nest (Sarabande Books). Holly received an MFA from New York University and lives in Brooklyn.
